Product Demo Videos and Animated Product Explainers

A product demo video is a short film that shows your product working: the screens, the steps or the hardware, in the order a buyer needs to see them. Animation Explainers makes animated product demo videos and product explainer videos for software, apps and physical products, so prospects understand what you’ve built before they ever speak to sales.

We rebuild your interface or product in animation, so the demo stays sharp on any screen, skips the dead time of a live recording and can show what a camera can’t: the inside of a device, data moving between systems, or a feature that hasn’t shipped yet.

What is a product demo video?

A product demo video shows a product being used to do a real job, from start to finish, so the viewer can picture using it themselves. It’s usually 60 seconds to three minutes long and lives where buyers evaluate: product pages, sales emails, trade-show screens, review listings and onboarding.

An animated product demo video rebuilds the product in motion graphics or 3D instead of filming or screen-recording it. You choose exactly what’s on screen, highlight the part that matters, and get a film that’s easy to update when the product changes.

Product demo video vs product explainer video

They work best together, but they do different jobs.

Why animate a product demo instead of screen-recording it?

A screen recording is fast, and for a quick internal how-to it’s often enough. For a demo that sells, animation has real advantages:

  • It doesn't date as fast. A rebuilt interface can be simplified and updated without re-recording the whole film.
  • No clutter or dead time. No loading spinners, test data or stray notifications. Every second shows the part that matters.
  • It works on small screens. We enlarge, crop and highlight the UI so it reads on a phone.
  • It can show the invisible. Data flowing between systems, what happens inside a device, or a process that takes days in real life.
  • It can show what isn't finished. Launch a demo before the feature is fully live, or keep sensitive customer data off screen.
  • It's consistent. One visual style across every demo, every feature and every language.

When the buyer needs to see real people or a physical setting, we combine footage with animation. More on animated vs live-action explainer videos.

Product demo examples from our studio

Three different products, three different ways to demo them.

XMA: hardware that sells itself. Part of a series we made for XMA covering Microsoft Surface Pro, HPE Aruba, GreenLake, SimpliVity and more: physical IT products explained for business buyers.

Luminix: footage and interface together. Licensed stock footage of real-world field scenes, with our animated UI layered on top, for field-operations software, so buyers see the product in the place they’d use it.

Siren: a complex platform, made visible. Dark, data-led visuals for an investigative intelligence platform with a technical audience.

How we make an animated product demo video

  1. Discovery and product walkthrough. You show us the product on a call: who uses it, the one workflow that sells it and what buyers usually ask. We send back a short brief.
  2. Script and shot list. We write the voiceover and on-screen text, and list the screens or product views each line needs. You approve every word.
  3. Storyboard and style frames. A frame-by-frame plan plus a few finished-look frames, including how your UI or product will be rebuilt.
  4. Voiceover and music. You choose a professional voice in the accent or language you need. We record, then pick music and plan sound design.
  5. Animation. We animate to the approved board and voice, then share a full draft cut for your notes. Every project includes three rounds of revisions, one at each stage: script, storyboard and animation.
  6. Delivery. The master plus every agreed cutdown, aspect ratio, caption file and language version, named and ready to upload.

What we need from you: access to the product or a recorded walkthrough, screenshots or design files (Figma, Sketch or similar) for software, CAD or photos for hardware, your brand guide, and one person who can consolidate feedback. More detail on our animation process.

How long it takes: about 6 weeks from brief to delivery for a 60–90 second demo.

What does a product demo video cost?

Product demo and explainer projects at Animation Explainers typically run from $6,000 to $35,000+. Where a project lands depends on:

  • Length and number of workflows shown
  • How much UI or product has to be rebuilt, and whether it’s 2D motion graphics or 3D
  • Number of versions: features, audiences, languages, cutdowns and aspect ratios
  • Series or one-off: a shared design system makes each extra demo quicker to produce
  • Review layers: product, legal or engineering sign-off

FAQ

What is a product demo video?

A product demo video is a short film that shows a product being used to do a real job, so a buyer understands how it works without a salesperson. It usually runs 60 seconds to three minutes and lives on product pages, in sales emails, at events and in onboarding.

What’s the difference between a product demo video and an explainer video?

A demo shows how the product works: the real interface, device or workflow. An explainer shows why the product exists: the problem, the idea and the outcome. Many teams use a 60–90 second explainer on the homepage and shorter demos on product and feature pages.

Should a product demo be animated or a screen recording?

Use a screen recording for quick internal how-tos. Choose an animated product demo video when the film has to sell: animation removes clutter and dead time, reads on small screens, is easier to update and can show things a recording can’t, like data moving between systems or the inside of a device.

How long should a product demo video be?

Long enough to show one workflow clearly. As a guide: 15–60 seconds for a feature or social demo, 60–90 seconds for a product page overview, up to three minutes for a workflow demo and two to five minutes per task for onboarding.

Do you need access to our product?

Ideally, yes. A walkthrough call or a recorded demo, plus screenshots or design files for software, or CAD and photos for hardware. We rebuild the interface or product from these so the film is accurate.

How long does a product demo video take?

About 6 weeks from brief to delivery for a 60–90 second demo.

How many revisions are included, and who owns the video?

Every project includes three rounds of revisions, one at each stage: script, storyboard and animation. You own the rights to the finished film.

What happens when our product changes?

Because the interface is rebuilt in animation rather than recorded, we can update individual screens or scenes later without remaking the whole film. Tell us at kickoff if a redesign is coming and we’ll plan for it.

Can you show the inside of a physical product?

Yes. 3D animation can show internal parts, exploded views, cross-sections and the product in use, from angles you can’t film. See 3D product animation.

How much does a product demo video cost?

Product demo and explainer projects at Animation Explainers typically run from $6,000 to $35,000+, depending on length, how much UI or product has to be rebuilt, 2D or 3D, the number of versions and review layers. See our explainer video cost guide.

Can you make several demos and versions in other languages?

Yes. We build one visual system and voice, then produce demos for each feature, product or audience. We can record voiceover in other languages and localise on-screen text, so one master works across markets.
